How to successfully launch your blog and keep its performance rocking as you move forward with your business.
Always work on improving your blog’s reputation by interacting with other bloggers in your industry as much as possible. Write guest posts for other bloggers. Leave valuable comments and contribute to established blogs.
2. BE INSPIRED
Keep your eyes open for inspiration. Always be on the hunt for new ideas that can attract relevant traffic to your blog. Think about how you can organize a giveaway or send out a poll. Giveaways are very popular, they can increase your blog readership by more than 300%.
3. SIZE MATTERS
The length of your blog posts matter a great deal. Of course there is no absolute standard for an ideal length as this can vary strongly depending on the subject and the audience you write for. Just make sure that your blog posts have at least a minimum of 400 words. Try to keep your writing interesting and make sure you don't drag out the subject to the point where your readers get bored and stop reading. Most people don't read more than 1200 words unless the subject truly grabs their attention.
4. BE CONSISTENT
A publishing schedule can help you post your work on a fixed time and day. That way your readers know exactly when to expect new content. There are many ways to schedule your posts, and you should figure out what works best for you. No matter how you do it, by posting fresh content on fixed days, your readers will know exactly when to visit your blog.
Keep your blog in a top condition. Make a checklist of maintenance tasks that you should be performing periodically. Run a check to see if all your content is still up to date and remove any data that may have changed over time. Check all your links to see if they are still working and fix broken links. Is your CMS running on the latest version? Do you use plugins that need updating? Test your blog in different browsers and check its performance on mobile to make sure your readers are getting the best experience on different platforms.
Use the power of your blogs analytics. Analytics will provide you with valuable data about the performance of your blog. Looking at the numbers, you can easily tell what parts of your blog are the most successful and what parts need improvement. You can determine where your visitors are from and you can see which posts are the most popular.
7. YOU CAN CHANGE
If your blog isn't performing as well as you had hoped for, or if you see a decline in visitors along the way, you might want to re-evaluate if you're still talking to the right audience. It's okay to change the direction of your blog if you feel there is a mismatch between you and your audience. Either change the subject of your writing, or try speaking to a different audience.
8. LESS IS MORE
Keep the design of your blog clean. After your blog runs for a while your interface and navigation might clutter up and confuse the reader. Keep your menu's clean and simple. items that were useful a year ago might not at all be relevant today. Don't be afraid to remove irrelevant items from your homepage or main navigation. Keep your blog looking fresh and clean, your readers will thank you for it.
9. BE ON TOP OF YOUR COMMENTS
Comments can be a great way to interact with your readers. Comments can be used to provoke a discussion amongst visitors, increasing engagement, or to get valuable feedback on your articles. Unfortunately evil spammers might also be using your blog comments section to send their worthless crap into the world. Many blogger today choose to turn off their comments because they are sick and tired of the copious amounts of spam it attracts. If you choose to keep your comments open, do make sure you are on top of it. Install spam filters, disable active links in comments, regularly check for spam messages, and delete everything that has no relevance to your article.
10. GO VISUAL
The web is becoming an increasingly visual place. A blog post featuring at least one photo gets read 3.4 times more often than a blog post without any images at all. Using the right header photo on your blog post can effectively grab the attention of a potential reader. Make sure you use quality images that are relevant to the content.
